Fitting a new near-lightspeed engine

Sometimes running a website feels like solving the 3-body problem. You get it all set up, looks slick and clean, the database inside runs smoothly, and it launches to complimentary comments. Then one of the bodies sweeps around, and pulls you off your feet, leaving you hanging in mid air.

Last month, the company whose software I selected to be the engine of the new site, swooped past and disappeared into the night sky. The business closed, with immediate effect.

It was an excellent, top of the range engine too, but the business packed up its toolbox and walked away.

The upshot is I’m having to rip out that shiny engine and fit a new one. The good news is that I found one, and over the last few weeks I’ve been testing it and learning how it works, and I’m very pleased with how it runs. This new engine, once fired up, will let SF Caledonia fly amongst the star as planned.

In short, at some point this week, the SF Caledonia website will be unavailable – dry-docked, refitted, and re-launched.

We have a fine collection of stories and other items ready to go and I can’t wait to get them out there.

Now, where’s me space-spanner . . .
